A Press Association message from •Auckland states that a number of the friends of the Hon. J. A. Millar intend to tender him a complimentary banquet of a non-political nature during bis present visit to the city. A Press Associatino telegram from AVellington states that His Excellency the Governor returned by* the Moura from South on Sunday. He loaves for Picton on AVednesday, returning on Saturday. A vote of thanks was passed at the meeting of tho Acclimatisation Society on Saturday to Messrs Hanson a lid Porter for their services to tlio Society.

The Attorney-General gave an address at South Dunedin on AVodiiesday last, and was due in Christchurch on tlio following evening. Colonel and Airs. Porter left- by the Tarawcra for South last evening. A Press Association message from Christchurch records the death of Airs. R. J. S. Harman, at her residence, Windmill Hoad, on Sunday, at the ago of 75. Airs. Harman was Hie daughter of the late Thus. De Renzy, M.D., of Croneyliorn, Carnew, County AViclilow, Ireland, and came out to N.Z. with her husband in the ship Egmont in 1856. A Press Association telegram from Christchurch states that Air. P. Kip pcnbergeii, a prominent local barrister, and German Consul died somewhat suddenly last night. At the Farmers’ Union meeting on Saturday afternoon, ATr. R. Al. Birrell’s departure for Scotland was referred to. Several of those present spoke highly of liis valuable services. It, was decided to entertain ATr. Birrell at a social on AVodnesday, and a committee was appointed to make arrangements.

Air. George Jobson, an enterprising To Arai ALilley settler, left, the district last week to take up land in Canterbury. Prior to his departure the residents of the A ; alley presented Air. Jobson with a very handsome gold watch chain. Afr. Jobson is a son of Afr. Win. Jobson, Alatawhero, one of Poverty Bay’s oldest settlers.
