BRANDING OF STOCK.
At the meeting of the Gisborne branch of the Farmers’ Union held on Saturday, the committee, coinsist iim of Messrs-. AY. D. Lysnar, T* Holden, F. Hall, J. C. Field, and A. J. Cameron, set up to report on Mr. Afaddison’s stock-working scheme, ronort.ed as follows : ' The eommittteo, after very careful consideration ol Air.Afaddison’s patent system of ear-marking, and testing the earmark on a small lot of lambs at Alatawhero. and trying the system by drafting, would recommend the system for favorable consideration at the conference of Farmers’ Unions throughout New Zealand. Special care should lie. take) to see that the necessary legislation to support such a system is not in the first instance made too drastic. Mr. Lysnar referring to the report said that the committee could not point to any serious defect in the scheme. Objections had been taken to certain points, hut the explanations .given were strong arguments in its favor. It was necessary to guard (in the proposed amendment to the Slock Act) against a person making i mistaKe being branded as a felon. Mr. Cameron, in moving the adoption of tlie report thought that a fuller test should have been made. Air. J. C. Field seconded and the motion was carried.
