MAKAURI. The annual meeting of householders was held in the Makauri school on Monday, when 20 householders were present. Mr. W. J. Turnbull was elected to the chair. The bal-ance-sheet showed a credit balance of about £ls. Regarding the circular from the P.B. School Committees Association, it was proposed bv Mr. MacGregor. “That this mooting of the Makauri

householders are ill favor of a separate Education Board for this district, and that we write to the Secretary of the Association advising them to form a strong committee tc: go carefully into the matter.” Mr. J. C. Field, in seconding tinproposal, said the one desire was tc do the right thing for the' advancement of the district as shown in the reports, taking the increase of children in the North Ward for the past three years. There had been an increase" of 500 children and with tinpopulation so steadily increasing it meant their capitation, was growing also, and financial difficulties would ho overcome in every way. in reference t o teachers’ dillicullics, Mr. barton had told t-lieui that at a recent inspection of schools surrounding Napier it was found that there were first-class teachers bidden away, and this, happening in a large district like Hawke’s Bay, showed teachers what might occur even in a big district.

At the school committee election for Nelson City the chief interest centred in the demand on the Education Board to persist in the proposal to ereclr a new girls’ school ill Shelbourno street on the old gaol site, in place of the present- Toitoi A 7 alley school,, which is regarded as too shady in winter. The Board has adopted plans and called for tenders, hut a minority insist that the building fund cannot be used for new buildings. BLENHEIM, yesterday. A meeting of householders at Blenheim unanimously recommended the incoming school committee to favorably consider the adoption of the Nelson system of religious instruction in schools. ■ .

ROTORUA, yesterday. The annual election of school committee last night attracted an overflow meeting at the Alexandra Hall. Natives attended m hundreds, the issue of the election being as to whether the headmaster should be remgved or not. There were 240
