SHEEP DOG TRIALS.
The thirteenth annual mooting of the Poverty Bay Sheep Dog Trials was hold at Ormond on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday last. The weather was very fine for the first two days, but Saturday opened showery, making tho ground very heavy. Mr. Jas. Russell acted as judge, and Mr. R. B. Dasont as timekeeper. Tho trials were hold on Mrs, Bruce’s paddock, kindly lent for the occasion. Tho judge stated that tho trials showed a considerable improvement from last year’s performances. The slioop used were some 2-tooth wethers lent by Hutchinson Bros. On Saturday morning some of tho sheep were tired and gavo some troublo, causing two of Mr. 11. 0. Stewart’s dogs to lose points. Mr. W. Bona’s Help did somo excellent work in tho huntaway, being successful in securing Mr. H. Sandlant’s special prize for the dog under host command.
The following are the winning scores: Head, bring back, and hold.—R. O. Stewart’s Jado, head 10, bring back 9, command 6, hold 4, total 29; K. Macdonald’s Dick, 9,9, 6, 4—28; G. Hinton’s Skipper, 7, 10, 6, 4—27 ; R. O. Stbwart’B Dick, 9,8, 5, 4—26. Huntaway.—W. Bona’s Help, huntaway 10, stylo 10, noise 4, command 6, total 30; W. Bona’s Billie, 9J, 10, 4, 6—294; E.Steggall’s Monk, 9, 10, 4, 6—29; K. Maacdonald’s Darky, 10, 10, 4, 5—29 (tie); R. O. Stewart’s Chum, 9,9 J, 4, 6 —285. Head, bring back, and yard.—R. O.
