TE RAU A 7. UNITED. At Victoria Domain on Saturday, bheso teams continued their match, To Rati winning by 45 runs on the first innings, thus securing a three point win. United were disposed of for 106 runs on their first innings, Halhunoro (21) and J. Gibson (24) being the only batsmen to show any form. Both gave nice clean exhibitions. To Ran in their second innings completely collared the United’s bowling, and at the call : f time had 147 runs on the board for tlio loss of three wickets. K. Turner (61) and Hamby (43, notout) showed first-class cricket, bitting with great vigor all round the wicket. Turner was given out for hitting the ball twice to one of AA 7 . Gibson’s grubbers. •J. AVack (11) and Jefferies (15, not out) also batted well. Tin’s match leaves the United in an unassailable position for tlio winning of the chain pionsliip, but if Te Ban had had time for the finish of the match, their chance would have been a good one. Mr. R. Tbelwall was appointed umpire for the Auckland and Hawke’s Bay matches, and Air. G. AA’i tty scorer. A reception committee, consisting of Messrs. AA 7 . F. Cederwall, AA 7 . Gibson, It. AA 7 . Gary, G. Iv. Pasley, and D. Barry, was appointed to meet the Auckland players on arrival, and arrange fr drags for the visitors during their stay here. Messrs. Hallamore, Gardiner, and Barry were appointed a catering committee, and Alessrs Barry and Maude were deputed to arrange for gatekeepers. Alessrs. Cederwall, G. B. Oman, and IT. E. Hill were elected a sub-committee to wait upon the Rugby Union, and endeavor to get a modification of the clause in the lease which provides that 50 per cent, of the. gross takings at all cricket matches be handed over to the Rugby Union. Alessrs. Hallamore and Gibson were appointed an entertainment committee.
THE AUCKLAND AIATCH. S. Palmer, L. E. Campbell, and E. R Ludbrook having signified their inability to take part in the match against Auckland, the selectors have chosen CY Lasker, J. It. Gardiner, and D. AL. Gorman to fill the vacancies. The emergencies selected are Dr. Collins (bat), AA 7 . Torkington (bowler), and H. H. Sharp (bat). THE AUCKLAND TEAAI. The Auckland team is a solid combination, and includes A. Hadilon. who is admitted to bo the finest batsman in New Zealand at the present time, and who it will bo remembered scored 71 against the AI.C.C. team in tlio second test match at AA 7ellington, recently, J. M. Hussey, the organiser of the tour, is another firstclass all-round player, and lias performed constantly with both bat and ball for Poverty Bay, Hawke’s Bay, Otago, and Auckland representative elevens for several seasons past. J. Hollingrake is another fine batsman, and will probably be flic wicketkeeper of the team. J. Prime bus represented Aueklaml, and is a fine left-handed batsman of the steady type. A 7. Kavanagh is a brilliant allround player, and has performed constantly in all departments of the City Club lor the past three seasons. In AA 7 . Bush, the visitors have a promising colt, who is a brilliant batsman, am! J. Knife, Humpson, AA'. and J. Coleman, and AA’. Price are all regular first eleven representative of the North Shore Club, who may bo depended to give a good account of themselves. Great interest attaches to the match against Auckland, and it is certain there will be a large attendance to see the Aucklanders at Victoria Domain on Wednesday, Thursday, anil Friday next.
