AQUATICS.
Tlioro was a largo crowd of spectators on the Kaiti bridge last evening to see tbo ten-stone and junior races between teams from the Gisborne and Poverty Hay Rowing Clubs.
The following were the teams in the ten-stone race:—Poverty, Bay: Clark (str.), Seymour (3), By ford (2), McConnell (bow); Gisborne: Johnston (str.), Bright (3), - Fraser (2), Bennett (bow.) Gisborne bad a lead at the bend and at tho bridge were a little over a length ahead of their opponents. Poverty Bay made an effort over the last' stretch, but could not improve their position. Following were tho teams in the junior race: —Poverty Bay: AlcGullie (str.), Nicholas (3), Stewart (2), Hogan (bow); Gisborne: Dustin (str,), Smith (3), Pullott (2), Buscke (bow). This was a great race. Turning the bend the crews were close together. At the bridge Poverty Bay had a lead of about half a length. Pust the bridgo Gisborne made a good longstroke spurt and drew up slightly; and over tho last lew lengths both crews sprinted in fine style, Poverty Bay winning by a bare half-length. This evening at 4 o’clock the senior crews will row. Following are the teams: —Poverty Bay: Taylor (str.), "Willoughby (3), "Webb (2), McLeod (bow); Gisborne: Bnyly (str.), Kershaw (3), Hamilton (2), Gumming (bow). The races are being rowed to decide the ownership of the licensed victuallers’ shield; and as both clubs have a leg in there should bo a large crowd to see this evening’s race. The crews have been doing a lot of hard training lately, and a good race can be confidently expected.
