RIFLE SHOOTING

GISBORNE MEN AT TRENTHAM. On Saturday morning Captains Bcoro and Tomblesou and tlio other Gisborne representatives at the New Zealand Rifle Association’s meeting at Tronthnm returned home. Over £3O in prize money was won by tho Gisborne men. Lance-Corporal Rait carried off the JCynocli Cup in the rapid-firing competition, after a close contest. Two of tho Gisborne competitors were left in the Anal fifty to shoot off for the Belt. Corporal Breingai) was in the 18th place before tho final match, and in tho final shoot at 1000yds worked himself into 9th place, winning a prize of £5. He had to shoot off with two other*compotitors for the Rifle Challenge Cup, which goes to tho highest scorer in the filial match. Corporal Dreingan’s aggregate for the Belt was 403, and Captain Tombleson’s 387. This is tho first occasion on which a Gisborno representative lias got into the final fifty for the Bolt. The teams’ matches participated in by tho local men were new to them, but next year they hope to do better. This is only tho second occasion on which a Gisborne team has been present at the meeting.
