TECHNICAL SCHOOL

PROPOSED DAIRY CLASSES. Early in February, Mr AV. Morgan, secretary of the Gisborne Technical School, communicated with a friend in Auckland in reference to tho appointment of a dairy instructor for the school, and Mr August Busck, of Auckland, was mentioned. Mr Morgan therefore wrote to Mr Busck stating that it was intended to form classes for elementary agricultural science and dairying in the rural schools in the Poverty Bay district, and asking Mr Busck on what terms he would acept the position of instructor.

Mr Busck replied that lie-was prepared to accept the appointment at a salary of £SOO per annum, with a five years’ engagement. Inter alia he states:—

I wish to congratulate you upon, your intention in regard to your proposed scheme of educating your agricultural community in agriculture and dairying. Being a native of Denmark, and having been connected with the dairy industry of that country, having kept in touch with its progress of dairying and agriculture since I left it, I am in a position to know what this education has meant for tho farmers of that country, and to tho country from an economical point of view. I have been writing articles, and in lectures from time-to time I have pointed out what the lack of agricultural education means in £. s. d. to the province of Auckland, and years ago I made great endeavors to get tlio Technical School here to include nn agricultural and dairy class, but in vain. I started a small dairy class in this place in 1897, but had to give it up on account of insufficient support.
