ROWING.
The semi-finals for the Gisborne Rowing Club’s Schumacher fours eventuated last niglit over the Taruheru course, when H. Kershaw defeated G. It. Butler, and C. Hamilton won from W. Johnston. In the first race .Kershaw gained a slight advantage at the start, and had to keep his crew well to their work to maintain it. At the footbridge, however, he had increased his lead to a length, and was going strong. Up to this point Butler had been rowing a good race, but his men suddenly got beyond his control, and finished rather'badly three lengths behind tiie winner. The race between Hamilton and Johnston was a hard fought contest, and resulted in an excellent finish. Hamilton had a slight advantage right through, and a well-timed sprint sent him past the post a length to the good. To-night at 5.30 the final will be decided, 11. Kershaw meeting C. Hamilton. The second round of the Poverty Bay sculling races for the handsome cup presented by-Mr. Broad, jeweller, was concluded last evening, when J. Nicholas defeated Bees Jones. This evoning the third round will bo commenced, when Prichard (18sec) meets G. Hendersen (28sec), and Willoughby (20sec) rows J. Niverray (2Jsec). J. Nicholas a bye. The semi-final will be rowed to-mor-row night, aiul the final on Friday night.
