CHARITABLE AID BOARD
Yesterday evening a meeting of the Charitable Aid Board was held in the Borough Council offices. Present: Mr. Townley (in tho chair), Messrs. Matthews, F. J. Lysnar, McDonald, Bright, Kenway, White, and Miller. The custodian of tho Old Men’s Home acknowledged, with thanks, the following gifts : —Fruit from Mr. Hardy; magazines from Mr. Lowell. There were four pensioners and 11 inmates. Spencer had absented himself on Saturday week, and had not returned. Mr. Lysnar: ■ That is how many of them do. They go and have a good drunk, and then come hack again. Mr. ICenway : Can’t wo make it so that it won’t occur again? The Clerk: What can you do? They come back destitute. Mr. Kenway said he did not think they should help any man who did that. Mr. Matthews said lie thought tlic law would compel them to relieve the destitute. Mr. Lysnar: How would it he to get the magistrate to issue a prohibition order in the case of every man who comes into the Homo? The Clerk: This man has a prohibition order current against him. Mr. McDonald said the law required that a man must he wasting his substance in drink before they could get a prohibition order against him. The Chairman: Ho must he wasting his substance in riotous living. The case of a man was mentioned who had gone away and left his wife and family destitute. Information had been given to the police, who were aking action in the matter. Some routine business having been transacted, the meeting terminated.
