As a representative team from Gisborne plays Motu at Motu for the first time ,a short review of the players’ merits, who have left for the County trip to the far back country, will be interesting In batting the team is strong, having R. G. Hallamore, W. Gibson, Dr. Collins, and H. Robinson of United, It. W. Cary, J. H. Wack, and J. Lang of Te Rau, and N. Sharp of The Wanderers. In bowling they are weak, but good fielding may make up for this deficiency In J. H Wack and 11. Robinson they have a good opening pair, while 11. Sharp and W. Andrews are good changes. The following are.the players and their capabilities: R. G. Hallamore—Fine, free bat and good wicket-keeper: has represented Hawke’s Bay, W. Gibson—Steady bat, plenty of strokes when going, good out field; has represented Poverty Bay. Dr. Collins—Beautiful free bat, strokes all round wicket; has represented Queensland, Australia. R. W. Cary—Good bat when set, hits hard on both sides of wicket, can keep wickets well. H. Sharp—Fine free bat, good change bowler; has represented Poverty Bay. J. H. Wack—Fine, all-round player, good bat, and keeps splendid length in bowling; splendid field. J. Lang—Free bat, scores fairly fast; good between wickets. H. Andrews—Good length bowler and fair field. O. R. Olsen—Fine field, moderate bat ;ean bow-1 fair ball. D. Barry—Moderate bat, fair field. Mr. Thelwall accompanies the team as umpire.
