THE HARBOR
To tho Editor of the Times. Sir, —Nominations for the Harbor Board are to he in next Monday, and little or nothing lias yet been heard as to the intentions of intending candidates regarding an outer harbor. The opportunity should be seized to make the forthcoming election a test by which a mandate can be sent from the ratepayers to the Board to vigorously push on with the outer harbor works scheme, upon which the future of the district so much depends. It is astonishing that with such a momentous issue before us the. members have given no pronouncement whatever except in the way of fragmentary remarks in tho course of discussions at the Board. What wo want is a clear and definite declaration ns to the views of candidates on the subject. With that object, on behalf of myself and numerous other ratepayers I would ask that each of tho elective members should without' delay give through your columns an unequivocal yes or no to the question —“Arc you in favor of an outer harbor?” Upon their answers' depends tho attitude of a largo number of people who have no wish to find fault with what the sitting members have done, but do earnestly desire to have tlio Board so constituted as to ensure an outer harbor works scheme being energetically taken up and vigorously proceeded with Tho time has gone past for debating tho subject. We know what wo want, and are prepared to support, and to have the issue clear wo ask the members to give through tho press an early reply —simply yes or no—without any heating about the bush, on the question asked above.—l am. etc., TOWNSMAN.
