Two policemen were placed in a position giving them a view of the assay officer. Men named Gerald, Brown, and Constable Blake were placed where they oould oat off the retreat. At midnight two men were seen approaching; Oee, William Hansen, entered the build* i ing. Hib companion, Marley, kept watoh -J* outside. Hansen seoured the keys, and I was opening the drawer containing the gold when the police pounced on him. A desperate struggle ensued. Hansen was overpowered. Marley took to his heels. As he was passing Blake and Brown the latter called on him to put bis hands np. He refused, and Brown fired. The bullet entered Marley’s back, end he was removed to the hospital in a critical condition. Sensational developments are expected.
