In sentencing James Robertson, for theft of Lodge funds, the Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout, said he always endeavored to give effect to the recommendations of the jury, who apparently in this oase were actuated by the faot that the auditors had not done their duty pro; perly, but on the other hand had performed it very perfunotorily. The oase was a seribus one, seeing that the lodge, which was carried on by people not high up in life for their own benefit, had lost Borne two thousand pounds daring prisoner’s period for management. He was very sorry for pri« “oner’s family, of which anyone oould be proud,-but be had to pass a sentence of threo and a-half year’s imprisonment.
