RIFLE SHOOTING.
Owing to the inclement weather only about GO men wero present at the Ivaiti range yesterday to take part in the various competitions arranged lor tho King’s Birthday meeting, The shooting, apart from the disadvantage of bad weather, was not up to the mark. In the Ivaiti match, 209 and 500 yards, the placed men were Corporal Breingaii Ist, Corporal Rail 2nd, and C. W. Farrell ilrd. The Gisborne match was won b,v Sergeant Taylor, who won the prize for the highest aggregate of iho day, The Gisborne Rifles A team, consisting of live men, Sergeant Somervell, Co ponds Breignan and Tail, Privates L.y.erd and llingston, won tho teams match. The Mounted Rillcs team did not compute, only three of their men turning up. A sweepstake was shot oil iu the afternoon, and was won by Private Lyford of the Gisborne Rifles. Nearly every competitor was a recipient of a prize, but as the authentic scores were not available last evening, the secretary being out of town, they are not published herewith. Prizes will he paid out this evening at Captain Becrc’s office.

The shooting for tho Coleman bhiold Competition took place on the Wuipawa range to-day. The weather was wet all day, and tho targets got in such a state that shooting' had to ho abandoned after the second range had been completed, and tho competition was decided on tho posi tions at the end of the two rounds. The
