LATE NEW ZEALAND.

PRESS ASSOCIATION Invercargill, last night. The Rev. E. W. Matthews, representing the British and Foreign Sailors’ Bociety in ecnnection with their Vietory Court at the Christchurch Exhibition, arrived to day, and presented the Borough Counoil with a bust of Nelson in Victory oak ani oopper. To-morrow Mr Matthews addresses the echoois, and leaves for Dunedin in the afternoon. He is a most interesting speaker. The object of his mis* sion is to rouse the interest of the young people in the work of his society, by the distribution at a low prioe, of attraotive souvenirs or ohatms made from Viotory oopper. Mr Matthews brings a larger bußt of Nelson for the Exhibition. It will ultimately find a plaoe in Parliament buildings.

Tbe annual report on the Bap. tist, the denomiiational newspaper, showed that since tbe price had been reduced the circulation had increased considerably. There was a credit balance of £25 6s 6d. The report of tbe Sunday School Youog People’s Sooiety’s Committee Bhowed that there were 54 schools in the colony with 5301 pupils and 678 teaohers, an inorease of five schools, 19 teaohers, and 262 sobolars. The meetings in the eveniag took the form of a Parliament, when the subject and methods of ohuich work was debated.

Robert McCarthy, a seaman, was accidentally drowned in the harbor to-night while working on a punt. The quantities and values of products exported from the colony during September are as follows : Butter 1311 cwt, value L 6564; cheese 104 cwt, L 334; beef 29,504 cwt, L 30.194; mutton 107,112 oarcases, L 66,713; lamb 24,834 earcases, L 12,206; wheat 5069 bushels, L 1254; oats 21,481 bushels, L 3306; hemp 1433 tons, L 42,998.
