PAPAKAIO MURDER.
PRESS ASSOCIATION Oamaru, yesterday. Further developments in connection with the Papakaio mystery seem to indicate that the weapon used was one having a 303 calibre. There was a wound in the right temple and two at tho base of tho skull, A post mortem resulted in the extraction of several pieces of lead from tho skull, also other bullet wounds on the chest The affair, which has caused great excitement, is still shrouded in'mystery.
THE INQUEST,
PRESS ASSOCIATION Oamaru, last night. In connection with rbe murder of Mr W. H. Rennie, schoolmaster at Papakaio, the iDquesi was opened to-day, but only the evidenoe of three witnesses was taken. That of Dr. Wbitton was to the effect that only cue shot had been fired. The bullet had splinlered in the head, but most of the piecea had been rcoovered. To all appearances Bennie had been shot while asleep, and to witness it did not seem possible under the circumstances to be a ease of suicide. The olher evidercD was unimportant.
Is is now evident that ihe person who commuted the deed foictd bid way into the house by the window, and made his exit by the door. There are marks on the window of tbe catch having been forced baok. The inquest was adjourned for a fort-, night.
