A meetmg of tbe Friendly Societies’ Committee took place on Friday lest. Mr A. Wads presided, end there were also present Messrs T. Holdaworth, B. S. Cox, G. Dartc a, F. Sparrow, H. Miller, Graham, R. G. Hayoook, E. A. Slack, Barry, G. D. Smith, T. Niool, File, and S. T. Stanton (seoretaty). The President weloomed the new delegates, and hoped the new year they were then entering upon would be of muoh benefit to tbe Association and Friendly Societies in general. The balanoe-sheet for last year was pro* sented. The amount of subscriptions paid to the Hospital Trustees was £IOO in round numbers ; this was paid for maintenance of Ledge members whilst in the Hospital. The amount was a great drain on ths Committee’s funds, seeing that to receive this benefit members only subEoribed 2s 6d per annum. The question of allowing members’ children to receive similar benefits was introduced, and was allowed to stand over pending alteration in the Constitution. It was announoed that delegates being absent from tbe meeting three consecutive nights their seats beoame vaoant.
To augment tbo Committee’s funds it was deoided to hold a football match at an early date, with probably a tug-of-war during half-time. _A very generous offer was made by the Rice Drumatic Club to give an entertainment on the Conference’s behalf on the 9th November, which was acoepted with thanks.
