CONTINGENT VOTE BILL.

.(Special to Gisborne Times.) Wellington, last night.

The Contingent Vote Bill, introduced by Mr C. Lewis, provides that a candidate shall not be elected unless he receives an absolute majority of votes. Eaoh elector under the Bill is authorised, if he thinke fit, to indicate on his ballot paper by the use of the figures 11 1 ” cr “ 2,” the name and preference of the candidate for whom be desires his contingent vote to be recorded. Where there is an equality of votes between two or more candidates the remaining officer is to deoide which is to be a remaining candidate. WORKERS’ HOME AMENDMENT BILL. The Bill to amend the Workers’ Dwelling Act of last year, introduced by the Minister for Labor, increases the salary maximum of a worker who may apply for a dwelling under the Act from £156 to £20(1 per annum.
