New Plymouth, last night, In connection with the reported Stan* dard Oil Trust negotiations on the Taranaki oil field, the position is that Messrs Petrie and Nelson, who have floated the New Plymouth Oil Oompany, and others in Dunedin and elsewhere are in negotiations with representatives of the Standard Oil Oompany in Sydney for the disposal of oertain of their options. The syndicate’s representative stated that the looal oil was so rich in by-products that the Standard Oil Company oould not compete with American against the looal article, and would consequently erect works here, and endeavor to hold the market in that way. The Sydney representative of the Borneo oil wells has also secured samples of oil from Ngairo swamp, near Eltham, for submission to his London directorate, and operations from that quarter are also expected. Meanwhile Mr Way, engineer to the syndicate, is proouring a plant in Sydney to oommenoe boring on the Bonithan estate, dose to town. Boring operations ere being vigorously pushed forward by the Taranaki Petroleum Company on two bores.
