Auckland, last night.

A heavy easterly gale is prevailirg along ihe coast from Cape Maria Van Diemau ;o Tiritiri.

The steamer Manapouti arrived from Fiji this morning with a heavy list to starboard. The steamer met with a gale and terrifio sea. The water ballast on one side ran out, giviDg the steamer a list. Heavy water was shipped forward, but no damage was done.
