THE LAND BILL.
to Times..) Wellington, last nigh
There is some difference as to whether ioeal bodies who have borrowed money will be affected by olause 3 of the Land Bill, which reads, 11 All Crown landß [ remaining unsold or unselected on the ooming into operation of this Act (but not induding settlement land or land reserved or set aside as endowments or reserved) are hereby set apart as a national endowment for the purposes hereinafter mentioned.” At the present time certa’n Crown lands not reserved are liable for rating purposes, notably in the case of the New Plymouth Harbor Board, and a point in question is whether the interests of the bondholders will be safeguarded under the clause as it stands. If not, duo provision will be made. The evidenoa of Dr Fit obeli, Solicitor-General, Mr T F. Martin, solioitor, and the ohairman of the New Plymouth Harbor Board will bo taken on this matter to-morrow.
Tbo Land Bill was considered by the Lands Committee this morning, and the proceedings were of an interesting nature, but es it would be a breaoh of priulege to publish them, I am unable to 6tato what took plaoe. It is doubiful now if the Bill will be reported from the committee this week.
