At a meetiog of the Chamber of Com' meroe and representatives of various businesses to consider the proposed reciprocity treaty, it was resolved, “ That this meeting, while agreeing that a reoiprooil Oußtom treaty dealing only with raw produots might with advantage be arranged between Australia and New Zealand, is nevertheless stroDgly of opinion that the present proposed treaty should be njaoted on the g ound that no advantage to New Zealand worth speokiDg alout is I kely to accrue in consequence of it, while at the same time eome of our important New Zsaland industries will be imperilled if not actually destroyed by the operation of the tariffs. It was decided to forward tho resolution to the Premier and oily members. Not much interest was tsken in the sul ject, tho impression being, as one speaker put it, that tho treaty was as doad as Julius Cierar.
