Tho fast time is accounted for by the road being in j splendid order and (ha absence of wind, Owing (o the Christchurch hsudicapper having somewhat overestimated the Otago l-ideis’ abilities, Withey and his brother and Carnegie are the only probable starters in the Northern raoe.
