HONOR 3 FOR DEFEATED CANDIDATE. PRESS ASSOCIATION Hokitika, la-t n'ght. A most enthusiastic and c owdod gatherf ing was present at tho theatre ibis evening, J when Mr H. L Miobel, Mayor of Hoki tika, was presented by his supporters in tbe reoent by-eleolion for Westlanl soat with a purse of 210 sovereigns and an illuminated address, setting forth the great appreciation of the honorable manner in whiob he had conducted the oampaigo. Mr Michel, in reply, made au effective speeob, thaDHiog them most sinoerely, and expressing his intention of contesting the next election. Presentations were also made to Mrs Michel of an address and a handsome dressing oass, and by juvenile supporters of a marble clook. Prior to the proceedings both looal bands serenaded Mr Miobel, and conducted him to the theatre. After the presentation csremooy Mr Michel and family were entertained at a great sooial io tho diillshed, which had been elaborately decorated The whole of the proceedings were oba-aoserrsed by great enthusiasm.
