DUNEDIN HOSPITAL

A GOVERNMENT PROPOSAL, PRESS ASSOCIATION Dunediu, last night. The foundation stone of the new medioal ward at Dunedin Hospital was laid to-day by His Exoellenoy Lord Plunket in the presence of a representative gathering. The Chairman of the Hospital Trustees (Mr Peter Miller), in the course of bis rema k-, said that £670 had been collected from tbo people of Otago for the new ward, and wiih the Government subsidy and interest earned there was now in band £16,000. Commitments had been made to the extent of £15,250. The old hospital, he pointed out, had beon originally built for the first exhibition held in the colony, end had been always unsuitable. About £30,000 had beoo expended on it, and he thought it wou'd have beon better bad a new building been put up at first.
