A BIG LOAN. PRESS ASSOCIATION,
Wellington, last night. A poll of ratepayers was taken to-day upon loan proposals of the City Council, which involved She raising of £255,952 for various purpose?. Among the votes allocated in the schedule was £IOO,OOO for general electric light installation works; £IO,OOO for additions to publio lighting ; £30,000 for power for lifts, maohinery, etc.; £52,852 for tramway extension, additional ears, etc.; and £27,000 for recreation grounds. All of the proposals except two wero carried, these being £9OOO for a now publio libravy and tramway offices, and £IBOO for the erection of employees' houses. Groat interest was taken in the polling, particularly in regard to the sum for the installation of eleolrio light works, it being the intention of the Counoil to supply private consumers with household lighting. This proposal was carried by 1133 votes to 792. The recreation grounds vote waß oarriod by 1270 votes to 601.
