BAR FATALITIES.
FOUR MEN PERISH WHILST TAKING SOUNDINGS.
PRESS ASSOCIATION' Westport, last night. A sad accident took place at Karamoa this afternoon, four men, Captain Serversen ; Franson, mate ; and seaman Robt. Wilson, and Jonas Hunter being drowned. They were out sounding on tho bar, and a breaker oaught and swamped their boat, and they shortly afterwards disappeared from view. Their bodies have not yet been recovered. The particulars are meagre, but it is understood that Severson ond Franson belonged to a soow, possibly the Haere. Hunter was the son of a well-known engineer, a resident of Karamea.
Wellington, last nigh!
News was received to-day from Karamea that Stenereeu, of the scow Kangi, with two of tho orcw, and a young man named James Hunter, wore capsized out of a boat whilst the bar, and wero drowned. Stenorsen leaves a widow and family in Wellington. Hunter was an engineer by trade, and was living with his parents at Karamea.
