W.R.O. MEETING.

(Per Preii Association.) Wellington, last Dight. The Wellington Racing Club were favored with mogoifioent weather for the opening day of thoir winter meeting, and the attendance for an off-day was excel* lent. Prominent sportsmen from all parts of the oolony were preeonl in strength; The course wbs heavy, consequent opon the heavy rain of the preceding afternoon, The racing generally was interesting, and keen finishes eventuated fn several instances, The big race was robbed of interest by the aooidents to Slow Tom and Irish. The amount put through tbe . maoh'ine totalled £11,452, including £1335 on tbe double machine, as against £10,414 put through at the corresponding meeting of last year. The five investors on the winning double, the - Steeplechase and Parliamentary Handioap, reoeived £24® 16s each. The results were :-rStewards’ Handioap—Gawain 1, Medal, list 2, Jolly Friar 3. Soratohod : Waikato, St. Ciaimer, White Star, and -Aborigual. Time 1.21 4-5. Dive. £2 15s and £3 11s, Miramar Hack Handioap—Kuka 1, Togos 2, Watlethe 3. Soratched : Misohßnoe, Tupona,. 0.D., and Teitangi. There was a great finish, Kuka winning by a bare head. Time 1,87, dive, £2 16s and £2 • 7b. First Hack Hurdler —Prcsprotor 1, Black Reynard 2, A-teriod 3. Scratched : Oatrpaw. Won by a length and a-half. Time 3.31 2-5, dive. £ll Is and £4 4s

Soratohed : Irish and Cniragno. Bounoe fell at the first obstacle, and Pushful cannoning into Magnificent when the barrier went up took no further part in ths raoe. Exmoor, Shrapnel, end Monarque Bingled them*, selves out in the struggle for supremaoy, Exmoor was in the lead until rounding the top bend,, where Shrapnel usurped hii position, and etalliog off a challenge from the Porirua horse in tbe straight, won comfortably by a good length.
