The City Council to-night, after a conference with Mr Robert English, consulting engineer, decided to appoint Me Hugherford, assistant-engineer at the Chrietehuroh gasworks, as manager at a salary of £3OO per annum, and appointed Mr T. Dow as aoting foreman. Mr English submitted a report on extensions to be proceeded with at once at a cost of £50,000. The Connoil rejected a proposal to instruot a general committee to report on the matter of procuring a site - and building for a new fire, brigade station, with new applianees, eto.
