PAINFUL DEATH.

(Per Piess Association.) Napier, last night.

A contractor named Philip Scullon who was found lying on the Waimarama road on June 14th, died in the hospital to .day from the injuries received and from exposure. The deceased,'’who was an old and respected resident of the district, was returning home when the dray got into an awkward position,- being in danger of overturning. Scullennnyoked the horses and attempted to right the dray, but it fell back on him, pinning him to the ground, and he was badly frostbitten wben discovered.
