The Court, whilst finding that the lights of the Energy were not burning brightly onough, and that the deck hand in charge of the Energy failed to see tbe Electra, owing probably to being asieep at his post, tho result of being on dnty an unreason* ably long time, exonerated the captains of both the Electra and Energy in connection with the reoent collision. The Court was stroDgly of opinion that tugs should carry at least one certificated officer ia addition to the master, Arrived, the Karitane, from Kaipara.

Melbourne, June 19. In the House Mr Deakio, in reply to queetions, stated that under the reciprocity treaty with New Zealand all States of the Commonwealth would receive equal treatment. Men of genius were and as during their lives they were rarely rewarded by any pecuniary remuneration, he thought they had a claim for consideration by Government.
