TBE CHILDREN'S EVENING,

There was a crowded a'tendanos at the Now Zealand Shipping Company’s sheds last night on ths oooasion of the " children’s evening ” in connection with the eocial in aid of funds for the establishment of a swimming bath for Gisborne. The Committee had made excellent arrangements for the gatbing, and every* thing passed cII in the ennothest m nner. Up to 10 o’olock the floor was reserved for the young folk, and the scene up to that hour was a moat attractive one, it being estimated that there were upwards of 1500 children and adults present. The members of the Sobool Commiitee wo.e present in full foroe, and ably assisted the staff of the Gisborne school in their efforts to forward the success of the Social. As on the previous eyeniog, the music was in the hands of Ihe City B nd and Miss | Moorb’s orchestra, so nothing was wanting on that score. Tbero was an abnndapt supply cf eatables, and. the Ladies’ Opmmifitee are ,to ba b.eartily pongratulata3 in regard to the way everything went off. The several committees worked assiduously to promote the success of tbe gathering, and it is anticipated that as tbe resnlt of their labors that the sum of £l5O will accrue to Ihe funds. It is io be hoped that efforts will be made to obtain a subsidy from tbe Government on tbe amount raised, and that by this, and other meaDs, the snm of £SOO required for the purpose of supplying Gisborne with first olaes will be obtained
