Io tho House of Commons, replying to Mr Redmond, Mr Runoiman (owing to the absence of Mr Churchill, who is suffering from iiflueoza) stated that Lord Elgin was pursuing exactly the same policy regarding Aei ralasian Immigration outlined by tbe colonial conference in 1897, and cor n'stontly obsenvl by Mr Chamberlain and Mr Lyttelton. Lord Elgin had every retain to believe that tho Australasian Governments fully reoogaised the question of immigration had a direot \ bearing on external relations with the colonies. No doubt their Governments would continue to give (till weight to the view of the Imperial Government.
