It showed that accumu’ated funds had in> oreased to L 21.423 000, while the bonus average was about the same as last year. The Chairman mentioned that among the oauses which had contributed to the year’s aucaesa were the disclosures in con> nection with oertain American societies, which had the effect of minimising their competition, Thero was a satisfactory acquisition of hew business. The success of the yeat’a operations, instead of being arguments against extension to Britiio, was a practical indication that they had chosen the psychological moment for this departure. Ho paid a tribute to Mr Littlejohn, the late chairman. Mr Dunosn repotted that the new business in Kew Zealand showed a slight iDotease on the previous yoar, though it was daily beooming more difficult to maintain tho How of new business there owing to the kseDne c s of competition, the competitor j being prepared ti pay more to get it than tho head office considered to be right in their caso.
