MURDER TRIAL.

THE SHOOTING OF MURFITT. (Per Press Association.) Palmerston North, yesterday. Maria Harris, oharged with the murder of Frederick Murfitt at Palmerston North on March 21st, appeared before the Court to day. Dr. Martin, in evidence, stated that prior to operating on accused at tbe hospital after the tragedy, she said, in reply to a question from him, thatßhe had shot Murfitt, but had not meant to do so. Sue had purchased a revolver with the intention of shooting herse'f, owing to being uabappy. She did not know why she did it. It all happened so suddenly. “He was going to his niece,” she said. "We had a quarrel, and as he was stooping down pulling a box out of bis room I lifted the revolver and fired.” The oaße is still proceeding.
