MR WRAGGE’S CONSOLATION
Perth, April 2G. Mr Clement Wraggo, interviewed, said all abnormal perturbations were directly due to solar conditions. His observations showed that the two hemispheres of the earth responded in different ways to any given solar period. The solar maximum was especially a means of seismic disturb • ances in the northern hemisphere, with a rainfall below the average, and in the southern hemisphere gave comparative terrestrial quiescence, with much rain and good seasons. The solar minimum was exactly the reverse. There was much to deplore in earthquakes and eruptions, but they showed there was sufficient vital force left in the planet to support human life for thousands of years, say, for at least till the next glacial epoch, which was due about twenty thousand years hence.
