REV. FATHER MULVIHILL.

MONUMENT TO BE ERECTED,

1 A largely attended meeting was held at the Roman Ootbolio Presbytery last evening to oanaider the boat means of obtaining some worthy memento towards the memory of the late Riv. FatherMulvihill. The Erv. Father Lane presided, and briefly slated the objsot of the meeting. Bo spoke at some length as to the work done by the late Rev. Fatbor Mulvibill, I and expressed the hope that his mamo>y would bo kept green by the members of I the parish. He proposed: “ That the Catholic community of Gisborne and dietriots, being desirous of plaoing on record I their appreciation of the inestimable services rendered to them and to the oomI mfmity at large by the late Rev. Father Mulvihill as a priest and as a oitiz-n, deem advisable the initiation of a movement having for its objeot the ereotion of a suit able monument to his memory." The motion was seconded by Mr D. J. Barry, and carried unanimously. Mr J. H. Martin thought that outside peopli should be allowed to assist. A numbor of outbids subscriptions were received, including donations from Messrs W. D. Lysnar, E. P. Joycr, and the Gis- I boroo Times, the Chairman expressing appreciation' iq regard to the offerings made.

Mr C. Neenan thought that the meeting was only for Catholios, but after hearing the proposition be heartily oonourred with

Rev. Father Lane spoke as to the means of eubsoriptioD, as to whether circulars be issued or subscription books be used. Mr 0. Neenan thought the circulars a good idea. Mr J . H. Martin said the circular was the best spirited and most businesslike.

Mr Williams suggested that circulars be distributed requesting that same be res turned by certain date, stating amount to be given, so as to soo wbat amount be guaranteed toward the ereotion of the monument.

Mr j. H. Martin thought the cost of the monument should be inserted iu the ciroular.

MrE. Williams’ proposition was put to the meetiag and unanimously carried, The suggestion was made that as the Cook Memorial would bo erectod during the course of the next few month?, the opportunity be taken to eeoure a suitable

stine for the late Rev. Father Mulvihill. The cist of tho stmo would be greatly reduced in consequence of the two works bei ig oa-rhd on together.

Altsr considerable discussion, it was decided to appoint a special committee to orh.'upcn the bu nets people of the bay to cor a der tho matter.

After general discussion, it was decided that Mosers p. J. Barry, J. H. Martin, E. Williams, and Rossbotham should be a committee to represent full particulars in regard to the district in question.

A vote of thanks to the meeting ler« minated the proceedings.
