ST. PATRICK'S SOCIAL.

A MO3T SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. His Majesty’s Theatre was last evening | the soene of a bright and attractive gathering on the occasion of the annual St. Patrick’s social, whioh proved in every respect a most unqualified success. The fact that the hall was being used for election purposes caused a slight delay, but this drawback was soon forgotten in the enjoyment or the dance. The floor was in oapital order, and everything was in keeping to assure a first class evening's enjoyment. There was a largo and representative attendance from all parts of the district upwards of a hundred and thirty couples beiDg present, whilst there were also a large number of spectators on the stage and in the dress c'rcle. As in past years the committee spared neither pains nor expense to make the gathering a success, and the result must have been highly satisfactory to the President, Mrs Maynard, and the popular secretary, Mrs P. Barry. The ladies mentioned were supported by a strong committee, including the following : Mesdames Martin (8), D. Barry, E. Williams, Cussen, Maher, Rossbotham, Finn, and Misses Eager and McQuirke, all of whom wore unremitting in tbeir efforts to promote the comfort and pleasure of visitors. An excellent spread was provided, and needless to say full justice was done to the many good things supplied. The music in the hands of Miss McGowan (piano) and Mr Murphy (cornet) left nothing to bB desired, many pleasing comments being passed in regard to the same during the evening. Messrs J. Martin and W. Webb made most efficient • M.O.s. A programme of twenty-two dances besides extras was gone through, and the social was continued with the utmost enthusiasm until an early hour this morning The Rev. Father Dufly was present during the evening, and took a keen interest in the proceedings, but it was a matter of muoh regret that the Rev. Father Mulvihill was unable on account of illness te attend the gathering The wish was generally expressed that the reverend gentleman would make a speedy recovery. The proceeds of the social will be devoted towards the church funds.
