JOHN F. SHERIDAN’S MUSICAL COMEDY COMPANY.
To-night Mr Sheridan will make his re-appearance after a long absence, when he will stage “ The Earl and the Girl.” Everywhere this piece has been staged it has met with unequalled success. The Sydney Morning Herald writes : —After allowing reasonable time for preparation, Mr Sheridan on Saturday evening played what’ may be considered the trump card of his season at the Criterion by presenting for the first time in Australia the musical comedy, or, speakiDg more accurately, extravaganza, entitled
“ The Earl and the Girl.” There was a fine houso, and numbers of people who failed to reach the thoatre oarly could not secure seats. The piece, which is the result of tho collaboration of Messrs Seymour Hicks, Ivan Caryll, and Percy Greenbank, made a decided hit at the Adelphi and Lyric Theatres, London, and its premiere here was undeniably successful, the performance being marked ail through by cordial applause, tho frequent recall of the principals, and uurestrained merriment. Tho extravaganza contains a numbor of spirited concerted piecos, and thoro are several good solos, notably “ Tho Sporting Girl,” “Shopping,” I Havon’t a Moment to Spare,” “By tho Shore of the Blue Mediterranean,” and “A Bit of Blarney.” There will be a change of comedy each ovening. This morning day sale tickets, admitting to the early doors, will bo on sale at Mr W. Miller’s.
