At the Continental wool sales there was a very large attendance of buyers. A good I choice seleotiou was offered, especially of merinos, whioh are ten to twenty centimes higher. Four thousand two hundred bales of La Plata wool were offered and 3060 were sold. .(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. Tbe Department of Industries and Commerce has reoeived the following cablegram I from the High Commissioner, dated London, March 10th : —The market for mutton is fi.mer, There is a better demaod. Stocks are light, especially light-weights, whioh are getting very scarce. Tbe average prioe of Canterbury mutton to-day is 4£d per lb, North Island brands 4 1 Bd, ewes 31. The average ptice of River Plate is 3£d. Tbe lamb market is weak. Stocks of Australian lamb are heavy and widely distributed amongst agents, who are pushing sales. A large supply of second quality is on hand, which affects the market very seriously- The average price of Canterbury lamb is 6fd; brands other than Canterbury s£l. The beef market is dull. River Plate supplies are heavy. The average price of hind-quarters is 3£d, fore--quarters (nominal) 2f)d. The butter market ia rather unsettled, on account of large shipments arriving from Australia of very inferior, quality, for whioh some holders are forcing sales. There is a general and active demand for best quality only. Tho average price of choiee New Zealand butter is 105 s, Australian 101 s, Argentine 104 s, Danish 115 s per cwt. The cheese market iB firm. There is a good demand for small whites at 625, colored 64s per ' owt. The hemp market is quiet, but holders are firm, especially of spot lines. The stocks on band aro 5:12 touß, against 974 tons for the corresponding poriod of last year. The average prioe for Wellington brands oa spot to day is f 33 per ton. The average price of Manila is £4l 10a. The cocksfoot seed ma>ktt is very firm. The average price of bright dressed 17ib seed on spot to-day is 57s per cwt. The wool market looks very strong. There are numbers of buyers, and the highest rates are tu'iog.
