MUNICIPAL GAS.

The special committee’s report presented to the City Council on the desirability of acquiring the property of the Christchurch Gas Company was considered by lhe Counoil this evening. The report stated that in the opinion of thecommittoe it was desirable to acquire the property, and requested authority to enter into, negotiations with the company for the purchase of thn plant on a basis which ; would yield to the shareholders of the' company an annual return, free of income, tix, rqual to the yearly dividend! received during the past tan yrars. After a long' discussion the roport was adopted by 8 to 4.
