EDUCATION RESERVES
MILLION ACRES TO BE SET ASIDE.
(Per Press Association.) Bleniieim, last night. A oiroulsr read at a meeting of the Marlborough Land Board notified that Cabinet bad decided to set opart one mil-
lion acres of Grown lands as an Education endowment on a basis of distribution amoDg the several land districts, to be in proportion to tbo number of children in each education district. It is proposed to devote one half of the revenue derived
from [these endowments to primary, one quarler to secondary, and ods quarter to
technical education. Lands are to be sflootod from throe classes of land, namely blocks not yet placed in the market, surveyed or unsurveyed, those advertised in the Laud Guide, and those held and occupied under pastoral licence. Tho circular asked the Commissioner of Crown Lands Ito reoommend the reservation on the average number of children attending the primary schools. In Marlborough in 1904 there were 1629. Tfce quota of land reI quired to be set apart in Marborough would therefore bo about 14,000 acres. I In the discussion members of the Board oxpreßßed the opinion that fourteen thousaud acres would not be a fair allowance | for such a large total area of land as Marlborough possesses in proportion to population, more (specially as this province never had a fair sharo of educational endowment. The matter was deferred until the Commissioner had prepared his recommendstion.
