SIR JOSEPH WARD.

OPENS A POST OFFICE. (Per Press Association.) Palmerston North, last night. S'r Joseph Ward opened the new Poet Office to day in the presence of a large number of people. He said that apart from post-cards, packages, elc., 2,199,145 letters bad been dealt with at the PalmerEton office last year, and the postal and telephono revonue was £11,485. [ Replying to a depu'a’ion, Sir Joseph Ward said the time would arrive very shortly when poople would have to pay for admission to New Zeeland railway platforms to prevent overcrowding. It was impossible ot present to devise a scheme whereby railway tick 4s can be sold like stamps in shops.
