A NEW STEAMER, e-a—ssa '(Per Press Asaocaatiion.)'. Wellington, last night. Mr Appleton, managing director of Huddart, Parker and Co , states that the company intend to build a new Bteamer for the Cook Strait service from Sydney, and when she arrives the Wimmera will be placed in the northern runoing with the Victoria. If the trade warrants it, the Zealandia will-also be employed. . With regard to the Exhibition traffio, he had consulted with those concerned, and in conjunction with the Union .Company extra requirements would be met as far as | practicable, but he feared some dissatisi faetion would ariee unless better facilities for acoommodating travellers ashore were provided. Ia referring to the shipping trade, he expressed a hope that the Commonwealth and New Zealand Government would refrain from harassing legislation, and also that in future the Governments of these British dependencies would find it advan-. tageous to assist thess great public and pri. vate corporations to develop trade in New Zealand and Australian waters.
