BOMB OUTRAGE.
DETECTIVE O’DONNEL INTER
VIEWED.
Melbourne, Jan. 2,
Deteotive O’Donuell, in an interview regarding the bomb outrage, said “I saw the man, and I’d know him. He was shott, thick set, young and active. If the explosion had been delayed.for one moment we would not need to be looking for him now. He would be in the morgue. I don’t know the man who actually threw the bomb, but I know the brain that direoted him. There is no doubt in my mind that a gang now controlling a portion of Melbourne organised this outrage. Men who have given evidence for us have been shadowed. I have been shadowed myself. As regards the present outrage, only one thing will lead to the arrest of the offender, and that ia a big reward. A small reward would be useless in the face of the organisation, aod the money be. hind the gang. The protection of the public is the treachery of criminals, and when they are being wefl paid to be silent the cnly way to open their mouths is by out-biddiog their employers. As to shutting down the gang altogether, it will never be done with the present law.”
