GOVERNMENT TO REDUCE TOBACCO TAX.
(Pet Press, Association.) Ohristohurob, last night. The Soargill to Etbelton section of tbe Waipara-Blenheim railway, nine uiilea in length, was opened by the Premier to-day. Mr Seddon announced in tbe cojrse of a speeob, that Government was takiog the heavy tax off tobacco. Ia regard to tbe Waipaoa-Blenheim lias, he said-it was expected an additional section of three miles stven ohains to Westland would be ready for opening next Juno, and‘a further section to Domett, another five" miles 27 chains, by November following. A handsome silver sonp tureen was presented to Mr Hali-Jones through the Premier, in recognition of his efforts in connection with the line, Mr Seddon returned to Wellington to-night,
