Tbe Waikato Farmers’ Club passed a resolution urging the early completion of the railway between Gisborne and Botorua as absolutely essential te the welfare of the Auckland province. The s.s. Hooraki, which arrived at Auokland yesterday from Sydney, brought 37 foreigners in her passenger list, including 23 Chinamen (17 being newcomers), 4 Italians, 3 Danes, 4 Syrians, and 3 Germans.
Owing to a difficulty in securing His Majesty’s Theatre, a slight alteration ooours in the dates of the Hon, James Carroll’s addresses to the electors. On Friday, November 10th, be will speak at His Majesty’s Theatre, Gisborne,’ and on Monday, 13th inst., will address the electors at Ormond.

One new member was elected. A man visited and warned him of conspirators who disliked his method of administering the Customs Department, and had resolved to ruin his health. Sir W. Lyne laughed at the idea, The visitor assured him that :Sir Thomas Kingston’s health : had been ruined by a similar prooess, and .' departed with a solemn admonition to beware of attempts on his life.
.Mr F. Carpenter, district agent of the International Correspondence Sohools, Scianton, Fa., U.S.A., is staying at the Gisborne Hotel for a few days, and will be pleased to supply full particulars as to the working of these famous sohools to those interested. These schools are the originators of correspondence instructions, being established iu the year ,1891, with one course of instruction. At the present time they have over a million students in various parts of the world, including 8000 in New Zealand. They teaoh 175 different subjects, employ over 3800 persons at the sohools, and the postage amounts to £BO jper day. At St.? Louis Exposition they were awarded the grand prize for correspondence instruction, being the highest award possible. Circulars on various subjects supplied free.
