CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
A meeting of the Caledonian Society was: held in the Farmers’ Union Club rooms last evening, when there were present Messrs R. M. Birrell (chairman), W. Robertson, McKay, Niebett, Hogg, Ingram, and J. W. Bain. The balanoe-sheet in. connection with
the plain aud fancy dress ball was adopted on the motion of the chairman. It showed receipts £B7 10s, and expenditure £6l 13s 6d, leaving a oredit balanoe of £25 16s 6d, which was considered as highly satisfactory.
The Chairman referred to the good work done by the pipers at the ball, and suggested that some recognition should be made of their services.
It was decided to present them with enlarged photographs of them3eves taken in Highland costame. It was resolved to erect a notice board at the ofißoe of the sooiety, Lowe street. The Chairman proposed that the Sooiety should hold an “ ingieside ” on. People’s Day of the Show, October 25tb, for the benefit of those country members who were unable to get in for the ball. It was deeidod to obtain Whinray’s Hall, if possible, and members were invited to bring their friends and intending members. The admission was fixed at 2s 6d for members, ladies accompanied by members to be admitted free.
The question of the annual sports gathering was discussed, and it was resolved that the sports committee meet on November 2nd. Mr Hogg stated that he was going to Napier next week, and would find out as much as possible from the Hawke’s Bay Sooiety in regard to the management of the sports meeting. The meetiog then adjourned.
