(Per Press Asaociatibn,.) _ Wellington, last night. The Marine Deportment has been advised that a teak board, with the name " Itnperator Alexander, R.Lin gilt letters six inchos loDg, carved upon it, was washed ashore at Okawa, at the Chathams, on August 20th. No weeds or barnacles were upon it, and it did not ap. pear to have been long in the water. It is reported Bt Chathams that firing at sea was heard in July. The Marine Department does not think the board could possibly have belonged to the Russian battleship Imperator Alexander, sunk by the Japanese in May last. There may, of course, have been a Russian merchantman of the same name, and she may have foundered in the vicinity of the Chathams,
